Is the automobile industry ready for a circular economy?
According to a recent Capgemini study, “Circular Economy: Towards a Sustainable Future,” 86 percent of automotive executives believe that the transition to a circular economy is necessary to meet sustainability goals, yet only 43 percent say their company is ready. The good news is that there are many opportunities for the automotive industry to adopt circular principles. This blog post will explore some of those opportunities and provide examples of how companies are already embracing circularity.
Mindful consumer practices such as reducing consumption, reusing and keeping products in use for longer are on the rise. However many consumers face significant motivational barriers to adopting these circular actions including marked reticence to renting or leasing items due costly costs of ownership while also lacking access at times because they live far away from stores where recycling infrastructure has been implemented.
